Custodial Operations

The primary purpose of the Custodial Operations of the School District of Waukesha is to provide our students, staff, and visitors with a clean, sanitized healthy environment. Some of the benefits from this work include improved morale, decreased absenteeism, reduced capital expenditures, safety and security, meeting legal obligations, aesthetic appreciation, and an increase in the general health and welfare of everyone who visits, learns, or works in the School District of Waukesha.

The duties of the custodial department include much more than daily cleaning services; it includes many services such as shipping/receiving/warehousing, mail and package delivery, minor mechanical maintenance, program and equipment set-up, building security, preventative maintenance program for floors and other areas, painting, groundskeeping, preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment, assisting with student activities, lunch program set-up and clean-up, assisting maintenance personnel, and many other forms of services and duties.
The custodial department serves/covers twenty-five main sites, three shifts, and seven day a week service. Additional services include warehouse operations and a shipping and receiving operation that includes the district mail, packages, supplies, and equipment moving throughout the district.
Also included in this cost center are costs for the district’s utility usage.

Maintenance Operations

There are a total of 28 buildings with over 2,325,000 sq. ft., and a quarter million sq. ft. of asphalt, playgrounds, driveways and parking areas with an estimated replacement value of $337,000,000 presently under the care of the maintenance department. In addition, the District has over 300 acres of green space requiring up keep. With a modest capital improvement and major repair budget of $750,000 per year, the District has scheduled for the 2010-2011 school year repair or replacement of items including carpet, asphalt, concrete work, doors and lights. Two key projects include updating the middle schools to accommodate 6th graders and the remodeling of Saratoga STEM School.
