Teacher Development Program

The Teacher Development Program is one component of the comprehensive staff development program in the School District of Waukesha. This program provides a series of credit graduate courses that focus on district instructional priorities. The program is the result of an innovative collaboration between the School District of Waukesha and Carroll University.  The purpose of this program is two fold.  The program:

  • Reflects the District's beliefs in the importance of ongoing collaborative, collegial professional learning.
  • Facilitates a common language and common knowledge base about sound practices for teaching and learning.

All teachers new to the district are required to take courses selected by the School District of Waukesha equal to 9 credits during the first three years of employment.  These courses are taught at Carroll University and are typically 1 credit each with the exception of one or two courses and Collegial Studies which are usually 3 credits each.

In order to receive credit for taking a course, you must attend each class for that particular course.  Most of the courses meet twice and are during the evening hours from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Carroll University.

Collegial studies are 1, 2, or 3 credits, but only 3 of your 9 credits can come from a collegial study (i.e. you cannot participate in three collegial studies at 3 credits each to fulfill the 9 credit requirement).  Other than this requirement, you may select any of the other classes as part of your 9 credits.
